The Recap
Week 1 is in the books, and your humble oddsmaker went 2-for-4 on the card while the league cooked up a 166-burger, a stone-cold tie, and a reigning sacko clawing out of the grave. Grab a chair.
I called Gibbed for your pleasure the Lock of the Week and told you to mortgage the house — Jack cashed it with a league-high 166.7, Jahmyr Gibbs (31.1) doing the honors on the team that bears his name, and a 63-point curb-stomping of Return of the IDP. The cruel twist for Jono: he got a monster game from Josh Allen (37.5) and still got buried by 63 — one superstar can’t paper over a lineup of no-shows. Title defense number three is off to a rude start for everyone else.
I made The People’s Commissioner vs Tuten Your Mom my Game of the Week and it delivered the shootout I promised — I just bet on the wrong gun. Wade poured in 146.7 and still lost, in no small part because he left a hefty 45 points rotting on his bench; set that lineup and we’re telling a different story. Tuten Your Mom answered with 161.3, led by Ashton Jeanty (29.7) — the very back Zach traded for on the eve of kickoff, paying off before the ink dried.
I swore the assassin would strike — The ChoSimba Ones owns Josh Jacobs Alibi and doesn’t blink — and instead we got the rarest line on the board: a 137.4–137.4 dead heat. Dillon got the best individual game in the whole league, Caleb Williams dropping 39.1, and it still only bought him a draw, because Kevin’s Jaxson Dart (29.6) answered every haymaker. History says Dillon puts Kevin away; the scoreboard says everybody exhale.
So much for “trophies don’t win Week 1.” I told you Grant had Shawnee’s number, and Swift kick in the Dak tore the page out — fittingly behind D’Andre Swift’s 31.9. The reigning sacko walked into One Big Beautiful Dill, walked out 108.3–103.6, and did it while leaving a comical 55 on her own bench — the most any team stranded all week — flipping a series she’d been losing with points to spare. The basement door’s open and Shawnee’s already halfway up the stairs.
Chalk one up for the fade: I took 2x Runner Up as the Upset Alert against the model, and Luke delivered — if you can call 96.5 “delivering.” Jalen Hurts (27.6) did the heavy lifting in what was less a football game than two guys slap-fighting in a parking lot. I am dead inside brought the week’s lowest score to the scrap and went home with it. Luke wins ugly; Trevor just wins the team-name accuracy award.
The rookie’s got a pulse. I went bold and called Cornstar for a top-3 debut — she came in seventh, so mark that one a miss — but Lexi nailed the part that counts, riding Lamar Jackson (25.8) to 105.0 despite her first-round receiver Ja’Marr Chase laying a 2.2-point egg. Trick or Trick It’s Mike Vick got a monster 34.8 from Derrick Henry, left 35 on the bench, and still went home 0-1. Welcome to The League, Lexi; you outscored four veterans on day one.
So here’s the hardware. Jack’s coronation writes itself; from there it turns mean. Grant coughed up a series he owned, Trevor brought a knife to a knife fight and lost anyway, Luke backed into a win on fumes, and Wade left 45 on the bench in a game he had every right to win. Read ‘em and weep.
🏆 Awards
- Team of the Week — Gibbed for your pleasure — 166.7 and a 63-point demolition, Gibbs leading the way. The champ isn’t sharing.
- Biggest Choke — One Big Beautiful Dill — owns Shawnee all-time and still let the reigning sacko rewrite the grudge.
- Sacko of the Week — I am dead inside — a league-low 85.4 in a rock fight you were built to win. The name’s carrying the load.
- Lucky Bastard — 2x Runner Up — 96.5 gets you buried most weeks; Luke just happened to draw the one team scoring less.
- Bold Strategy — The People’s Commissioner — 146.7 on the field, 45 stranded on the bench, and an L to show for it. Imagine setting the lineup.
The Preview
The wait is over — the draft’s in the books and the 2026 season is finally live. No more mock-draft grades, no more “on paper” — twelve teams, six matchups, and the rubber meets the road. Let’s read the tea leaves.
The marquee, as ever, is The People’s Commissioner vs Tuten Your Mom — 23rd meeting, Wade up 13-10, and this year the projection likes Wade too. It’s the league’s best win rate against the guy with the 2019 Shiva, it’s close, and it’s personal. Watch this one.
Gibbed for your pleasure is the week’s biggest chalk — the model loves Jack over Return of the IDP, and it should: two rings and a 13-9 stranglehold on Jono, who’s still starting defenders on principle. The projection is being polite.
I am dead inside vs 2x Runner Up is where the tape and the history throw hands. The projection favors Trevor — but Luke owns this matchup 5-2 and is holding a 2024 title, while Trevor’s a career .458 who peaks at “runner-up.” I’m not buying the number here.
Josh Jacobs Alibi vs The ChoSimba Ones grades out as a near coin flip, and the model leans Dillon by a hair. History leans harder: Dillon’s a .619 assassin who’s beaten Kevin eight of eleven, so that toss-up has a heavy thumb on the scale.
One Big Beautiful Dill vs Swift kick in the Dak is the grudge game. On paper Shawnee’s the grown-up with two Shivas, and the projection barely favors Grant — which tracks, because somehow Grant is 3-1 against her all-time. Trophies don’t win Week 1.
And the debut: Cornstar vs Trick or Trick It’s Mike Vick. Welcome, Lexi — you’re a projected favorite in your first-ever start, against a man whose career ceiling is fourth place. First meeting, softest landing in league history. Don’t blow it.
So here’s how I’m lining up the card. People’s Commissioner vs Tuten Your Mom is the Game of the Week because 23 meetings and one point of separation is what a rivalry looks like. I’m slamming Gibbed for your pleasure as the Lock — favored by the model, owns Jono head-to-head, and hunting a third ring, so mortgage the house. Give me 2x Runner Up on the upset, because the projection actually has Luke losing to Trevor and I’m fading that hard — the ring and the 5-2 series say the model’s got it backwards. And write this down as the bold one: the rookie Lexi, a projected favorite in her debut, outscores nearly the whole league in her first-ever start.
